Marjorie Evelyn Ralston 1922-2011
Ralston, Marjorie Evelyn, Halifax/Wentworth. It is with broken hearts we
announce the passing of Marjorie Evelyn Ralston. Mom passed away
peacefully in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, on
Thursday September 22, 2011 at the age of 89. Marjorie was born on June
11, 1922, the precious daughter of the late Muriel (Patriquin) and Angus
McCulloch. In August of 1941 she married Ivan Ralston of Westchester and
they resided there until the fall of 1969, when they moved to Halifax.
Mom had many dear friends in Westchester. She always had an extra place
at the table for anyone who dropped in for some of her excellent cooking
and especially her cookies. She was a life member of the Westchester
Women's Missionary Society. When she moved to Halifax she was an active
volunteer at Armview Estates Nursing Home where her son Gary resided for
16 years. At Armview she was affectionally called "Mom" by both staff
and residents. With her quiet, gentle manner and sweet smile she was
much loved by all those lives she touched. In 1986 she moved to
Cornwallis Morreau Lodge when she again made many friends. She enjoyed
playing cards, darts and bingo. In 1999 after Gary's death she moved to
Wentworth where she resided and was lovingly cared for by her daughter
Carolyn and son-in-law Larry. She enjoyed many happy hours with her
grandson Steven. Some of her happiest times was opening their gifts
together on Christmas mornings. Mom was extremely fond of her extended
family whom she referred to as the "girls". She is survived by her
daughter Carolyn (Larry); grandsons, Robbie (Darlene), Lower Sackville,
and Steven, Hamilton, ON; great granddaughter, Cassidy Durston; also
sister Eleanor, ON; brother, Deane, ON; several nieces and nephews. She
was predeceased by her husband, Ivan; son, Gary; brothers, Lyle and
Garth; sister, June. Arrangements are entrusted to the Mattatall ~
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro where visitation will be held
on Saturday, September 24, 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held in the
Westchester Baptist Church, Sunday, September 25, at 4pm, Pastor Darrell
Dykens officiating, assisted by Rev. Natalie Buchanan-Rutherford.
Interment will be held in the Eagle Hill Cemetery, Westchester, followed
by a reception in the Westchester Fire Hall. Private messages of
condolence may be sent to the family by visiting the "guest book" at:
