George Burgess Frances [sic] Newcombe 1933-2011
The death of George Burgess Frances [sic] Newcombe, 77, of Amherst,
occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on September 19,
2011. George was born in Nappan, NS and was a son of the late George
and Blanche (Smith) Newcombe. George had served in the Royal Canadian
Air Force for twenty-seven years, and retired as Master Warrant Officer.
He had been past president of the R.C.A.F. #105 Cumberland Wing and
former office manager for the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 10. He was
an avid gardener, his home on Lorne Crescent having been featured in a
local yard tour and newspaper. George will be sadly missed by his wife,
Christella (Sprague); two daughters, Natalie Newcombe,
Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, PQ, Tanja (Keith) MacDonald, Amherst; five sons,
George "Rick", Hamilton, ON, Tony (Lillian), Burlington, ON, Terry
(Diane), Ontario, Lawrence, Ottawa, ON, and Sean, Amherst; a step
daughter, Patrica Yates, Amherst; three sisters, Louise (Burton)
Ripley, Port Howe, Charlotte (Aubrey) Boss, Tidnish, Beverly (Norman)
MacDonald, Amherst; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Carl and Bob.
George's arrangements have been entrusted into the care and supervision
of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst (667-8777).
Honoring his wishes, the remains have been cremated. There is to be no
visitation or funeral service. Donations in George's memory can be made
to the Palliative Care Unit of the CRHCC.
