A 39-year-old Halifax man has been sentenced to 12 years in a federal institution on charges
related to an attempted armed robbery at Henley's Pharmacy. No one was injured during the
struggle with owner Beth CLARK.

Ted and Joan GODFREY recently opened their True Blue Health and Fitness Centre upstairs in the
former Kwik Way building on the corner of Main and Water Streets.

Town of Oxford Solicitor Reburn MCCUNN, QC, presented Mayor Bill PARK and Council with mounted
and frames pictures of the 1931 spring flood in Oxford. They will be displayed in the Town Hall.

The Cumberland District School Board has selected Marilyn THOMPSON to the position of Teaching
Vice-Principal Oxford Regional Elementary School. She replaces Lawry MACLEOD who has been
appointed Teaching Principal at Sir Charles Tupper Elementary School in Warren.

Two hundred years of ministry on the Malgash-Wallace Pastoral Charge of the United Church of
Canada were celebrated on August 4 when the Moderator of the United Church, the Right Reverend
Walter FARQUHARSON preached a service in St. John's United Church, Wallace.

Howard ELLIOTT, chairman of the Pugwsh Village Commission, says the decision of Canada Salt Co.
Ltd. to build a $2 million salt refining plant will be a tremendous economic boom for the whole
Pugwash area. It will provide about 50 new jobs. The mine now employs 75.

Thursday, September 6, 1951.

Oxford schools reopened on September 5 with an enrollment of 387 as compared with 371 last
year. Temporary classrooms are being used until the completion of the new elementary school.
Newcomers to the teaching staff are Leone TRITES, Truro; Bordon HALIBURTON, Avonport; Edward
BLANCHARD, Westchester. Other teachers are Evelyn MIERS, Mrs. Winston LOCKHART, Wilma
RHINDRESS, Helen DOWNING, Mrs. Ethel MATTINSON, Mrs. Norman THOMPSON, Mrs. Paul HUDAK, Mrs. K.
ROSS, Donald MACLEAN, Mrs. Llaina DONKIN. The Principal is H.R. SPINNEY.

Three Oxford girls, Eleanor JOHNSTON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnston; Shirley GRAVES,
daughter of Mrs. Estella Graves, and Joyce ROGERS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rogers, are
graduating as nurses at Highland View Hospital, Amherst.

Harry W. THOMPSON, son of Mr. and Mrs. William D. Thompson, Ellis Street, has been transferred
to Rivers, Manitoba, for advanced navigation course. Harry is an Oxford boy who has made good
in his chosen field of endeavor with the armed forces of the Dominion.
