FITCHBURG - Lloyd L. Chappell, 64, of 7 Hyannis St., Nashua, N.H., formerly of Fitchburg, died Sunday in Nashua Memorial Hospital after he was stricken ill at his home. He leaves his wife, Betty Ellen (Palmer) Chappell; a son, Greg R. Chappell of Westminster; two daughters, Deborah L. Lashua and Barbara A. Scott, both of Inverness, Fla.; a brother, Rae Chappell in Ontario, Canada; and three grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Chappell observed their 43rd wedding anniversary recently. He was born in Dorchester, son of Blair and Bessie E. (Hunter) Chappell, and moved to Nova Scotia, Canada, at the age of six. He returned to the United States in 1962 and lived here 17 years before moving to Nashua in 1979. He graduated from a high school in Nova Scotia. Mr. Chappell was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Royal Canadian Navy in the European-African-Middle Eastern theater. He was a superintendent at Equipment Enviromment Co. in Hudson, N.H., where he worked for many years. Mr. Chappell was a member of the Church of The Resurrection in Nashua and a former member of St. Bernard's Church here. He was a third degree member of Fitchburg Council 99, Knights of Columbus, and a member of Local 107, Carpenters Union, in Worcester. The funeral will be held tomorrow from Smith-Mallahy Funeral Home, 243 Water St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 228 Water St. After cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours at the funeral home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
