Approximately 75 people gathered at MacDonald Lane, Port Howe, to help Harold and Mabel LOWTHER
celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary, although their anniversary is not until December 22.
Since daughter Carla, Mike, Robbie and Matthew could not be home in December, Victor, Melissa
and family decided to celebrate it in July.
A 40th wedding anniversary Open House celebration was held at the home of Avard and Jean BENTLEY
in Westchester on Sunday afternoon, July 22. Avard and Jean were married by Rev. John PORTER in
the Baptist Church, Oxford, on Saturday, July 21, 1961.
Died - E. Phyllis PORTEOUS, 82, Oxford, July 26.
Died - Donald Peter MCLEOD, 35, son of Peter and Judy McLeod, Wallace, July 26.
Died - G. Allison SMITH, 76, Shinimicas, July 26.
Died - C. Oran THOMPSON, 78, born in Oxford, January 31.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne ARMOUR, Roslin, was badly gutted by fire of unknown origin on
Friday evening, August 2.

Pugwash who had served over 24 years with the Federal Fisheries.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. George BETTS, East Wallace, was the scene of merry occasion Friday
evening when the members of the Wallace Bridge and Wallace River choirs endered a surprise
presentation to Mr. and Mrs. Burton ALLEN in honor of their 40th wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Will BLAIR suffered a bad fall from the front door of her home on Ellis Street on Sunday
night. She was rushed to the hospital where it was learned she broke both wrists and also
suffered head bruises.

Seventy Years Ago
Thursday, August 7, 1941.
When his motorcycle failed to make the corner of Main and Water Streets, a soldier suffered a
dislocated shoulder and other injuries as the vehicle plunged down between the Hickman building
and George Hills' building. The motorcycle was part of an artillery convoy returning to Debert
from Tracadie, NB.
James MUNROE, aged citizen of Malagash and former mail driver, had his right arm broken when he
was caught by a rope and thrown to the ground while pitching a load of hay.
Died - William WARD, 57, who conducted a harness shop at Oxford for many years, August 1.

Samuel P. and Anna Belle (Studivan) Jamieson. Surviving are friend of 54 years, Emma Wilson;
her son Howard (Sheila) Wilson, Pugwash; sister Vivian Mitchell, Campabello Island, NB.

SCOTT, Raymond Royce, passed away June 28, 2011 in Ontario. Son of Norman R. and the late
Marguerite (Brown) Scott. Survived by wife Norma (Tysick) Scott; children Tina (David) Bentley;
