Bette L.M. Casey
(June 6, 1922 - September 5, 2011)

Casey, Bette L. M. - 89, Springhill, passed away peacefully, surrounded
by her loving family, Monday, September 5, 2011 at home. Born in
Moncton, NB, she was a daughter of the late John F. and Josephine
(Morrison) Leightizer. Bette was a teacher for over 25 years in
Cumberland County schools including South Athol, Oxford Junction,
Springhill Junction and Leamington. She was a member of St. John the
Baptist Roman Catholic Church and CWL. Bette was also a member of the
Pythian Sisters and Nomads Lodges. Bette was a devoted and loved mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother. She will be
greatly missed by all her family and friends. She is survived by her
daughters, Claudia Newman; Sheila Rae (Mick) McBurnie; Stephanie Casey,
all of Springhill; Bronwyn Casey (Michael Adams), Halifax; Tara Casey
(Patrick Nauss), Chester; sons, Edgar, Truro; Ervin (Kelly) and John
(Monica), both of Springhill; sisters, Joyce Llewelyn, Edmonton, AB;
Patricia, Elliot Lake, ON; brother, Sidney, Waterloo, ON; 23
grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren.
Bette was predeceased by her husband, Basil in 1985; sisters, Mary,
Connie, Rae, and Penelope; brothers, George, Jack, and Jim. Visitation
will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, September 7 in MacDiarmid's
Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (447-2930). Funeral service will
be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 8 in St. John the Baptist Roman
Catholic Church, Springhill, with Father David MacDonald officiating.
Donations may be made to Chalice Christian Child Care International.

OBITUARY: Basil B. Casey
Springhill - Basil Bliss Casey, 69, of Springhill, died Monday at home.
Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Edgar and Leona (Taylor)
Casey. He was a veteran of the Second World War and was a member of
Springhill Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 17. He was a member of Pioneer
Street Club and the ROAB. He was an ardent race horse fan. He is
survived by his wife, the former Betty Leightizer; four daughters,
Claudia (Mrs. Joseph Newman), Bronwyn (Mrs. Michael Adams) and Mrs.
Stephanie Maddison, all of Scarborough, Ont.; Shelia Rae (Mrs. Mickey
McBurnie), Springhill; three sons, Edgar, Ervin and John, all of
Springhill; two brothers, Harold and Darrell, both of Springhill; 16
grandchildren.He was predeceased by two sisters, Amelia Snell and Ruby
MacDiarmid and a brother, Michael. The body is in the family residence.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. John the Baptist
Church, Springhill, Rev. Dermat Monoghan officiating. Burial will be in
Mapleton Cemetery.
