FIVE ISLANDS - Funeral service was held here for Joseph Evan Phillips, 82, of Five Islands.
He was born at Fingerboard, Cumberland County, son of Capt. David and Sarah Philips. He worked in the lumbering industry at Shulie, Sand River and Five Island. he spent several years at sea.
Surviving are his wife Ada; one son Clifford, Five Islands; two brothers, Leslie and Garnet, Five Islands; three sisters, Lucy and Maude, Lower Economy, and Mrs. Nettie Greer, Joggins Mines; several nieces and nephews.

PARRSBORO - Funeral services were held from Smith's Funeral Chapel, Parrsboro for Mrs. Joe Phillips, who died at her home in Lower Five Islands last Friday, Rev. Arnold H. Mitton officiated.
The former Ada Isabelle Smith, she was born 77 years ago in South Athol, a daughter of the late Herman William Smith and Rosa Edith Smith.
She was interested in reading and was active in all phases of community life.
She was predeceased by her husband two years ago.
She is survived by a son Clifford, three sisters, Miss Jessie E. Smith; Mrs. Ed MacAloney, all of Five Islands, and Mrs. Raymond White, Edmonton. She was predeceased by two sisters and a brother.

Born in Shulee, she was a daughter of the late Capt. David and Francena (Berry) Phillips.

The body is at Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, Rev. R. Chapman officiating. Interment in the Five Islands cemetery.

LOWER ECONOMY - Miss Maude M. Phillips, 89, of Lower Economy, died Friday in Parrsboro Hospital.
Born in Shulee, Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late David and Francena (Berry) Phillips. She was employed with Eaton's Toronto and Moncton. She was the last surviving member of her family.
The body is at Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral service will be held Sunday, 3:30 p.m., at the Piniel United Church, Five Islands, with Rev. R. Chapman officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery at a later date.

FIVE ISLANDS - Leslie David Phillips, 79, of Five Islands died Thursday in Camp Hill Hospital, Halifax.
Born at Two Rivers, Cumberland County, he was the son of the late Captain David and Francina (Berry) Phillips.
A veteran of the First World War he was a retired lumber surveyor.
Surviving are his wife the former Hattie Doyle; one daughter, Veda (Mrs. Sherman Carter), Elmsdale; two sisters, Maude and Lucy, both of Lower Economy; and three grandchildren.
The body is at his residence. Funeral service will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. in Penial United Church, Rev. Victor MacLeod officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

GARNET SCOTT PHILLIPS
FIVE ISLANDS - Funeral service for Garnet Scott Phillips, 70, of Five Islands, was held here this week.
He was born at Two Rivers, Cumberland County. In his youth he went to New York and joined a shipping firm. After obtaining his captain's papers, for some years he sailed up the Hudson and Great Lakes and various southern points, carrying freight. He retired August 1960 and came back to Nova Scotia to live.
Surviving are two sisters, Lucy and Maude Phillips, Lower Economy; one brother, Leslie, Five Islands; several nieces and nephews.
