This lady was my first cousin, Laney. She was born 1940-07-22. Her
great-grandparents were Thomas Harrison "Harry" Canning & Hattie Adelia
Gilbert. - Eric
Beverley 'Elaine' Walker
//It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of
our dear wife, mother, grandmother, and sister on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011,
at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney, Elaine was the
daughter of the late Ervin and Elsie (Matheson) Canning. Elaine was
retired from the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Social Work Department.
She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Elaine will be forever
remembered for her vivacious laugh and love of life. She has spent her
years since retirement travelling with and to visit her children and
grandchildren. She was in the midst of planning her trip for 2011 when
she was called home. Surviving are her loving children, two daughters,
Terri Lynn and Janet, both at home; two sons, Stephen (Martha), Florida,
and Brian (Eleanor), Toronto; her four grandchildren, Jessica, Nathan,
James and Kyle; one brother, Terry (Jerry), Glace Bay. Elaine was
predeceased by her husband, Gordon. Visitation will take place at Sydney
Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service
will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Presbyterian Church, with
Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment at a later date. How blessed we
