Irene Charlotta McWhirter 1912-2009
Surrounded by her family, the passing of Irene McWhirter occurred at the
Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, April 16, 2009. She was born
at Clones, Queens County, NB to the late Wellington and Mabel
(Williamson) Chittick. Irene was a homemaker most of her life but in her
later years, she worked at Centra Care in the dietary department. She
was a member of the First Wesleyan Church, The Best Years Fellowship
Group and the Carleton Kirk GEMS. Above all, Irene loved her
grandchildren, her church and her word search puzzles. She is survived
by her only child, daughter, Donna Gilliland (Steve) of Saint John;
three grandchildren: Kevin Gilliland (Diane), Kelly Rankin and Pam
Stramaglia; four great grandchildren: Jena Gilliland, Benjamin and
William Rankin and Kayla Stramaglia and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Irene was predeceased by two husbands: Charles W.
Pevlin and Edgar R. McWhirter; one brother, Leslie Chittick and one
sister, Dora Short. Irene was the last surviving member of her immediate
family. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise
Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
The funeral service will be held from the First Wesleyan Church, 399
Boars Head Road, Saint John on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11 am.
Interment will take place in Central Hampstead Baptist Cemetery. For
those who wish remembrances may be made to the First Wesleyan Church or
to the charity of the donor's choice.

The death of Mr Edgar Robert McWhirter of 2 Carleton Kirk, Saint
John,husband of Mrs Irene (Chittick)(Pelvin) McWhirter,occured on
Tuesday,August 6,1996, at Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in West
Apple River,Nova Scotia,he was the son of the late Whitney and Margaret
(Burnett) McWhirter. Mr McWhirter worked in the Candy Department of
Willett Fruit for over thirty years,until his retirement in 1981. He was
volunteer at the Carleton Kirk. He was a member of the Carleton Kirk
Jewls, Senior Citizen's Club and a member of the First Wesleyan Church.
Besides his wife,he is survived by his step-daughter Donna Gilliland and
her husband Stephen C. of Renforth,two sisters Mrs Dorothy Morris of
Parrsboro,NS and Mrs Loella Atkinson of Windsor,NS,three
step-grandchildren,one step-great granddaughter,several cousins, nieces
and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Roy and Murray McWhirter
and his first wife Helen (Morrison) McWhirter. Resting at Brenan's
Funeral Home. with visiting Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral service
will be held at the First Wesleyan Church Boars Head Road,on
Friday,August 9,1996 at 2P.M. Interment in Ocean View Memorial
Gardens,Saint John NB.
