OBITUARY
APPLE RIVER - Captain Whitney E. MCWHIRTER, 90, of Kentville and
formerly of Apple River, died Saturday, March 3, 1979, in McAloney's
Nursing Home, Springhill. Born in West Apple River, he was a son of the
late Robert and Almira (Robson) McWhirter. He was a sea captain and
sailed for 42 years. Surviving are his wife, the former Nettie Sanford;
two daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Randolph Morris); Parrsboro; Luella (Mrs.
Cecil Atkinson), Windsor; two sons, Roy, Parrsboro; Edgar, Saint John; a
step-son John Sanford, Kentville; a brother Delbert, Apple River; two
sisters, Sarah (Mrs. Alvin Hughes), River Hebert; Jessie (Mrs. Medley
Spicer), Apple River; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He
was predeceased by his first wife, the former Margaret Burnett, a son
Murray, a sister Laura and two brothers, Arthur and William. The body
rested at Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral was held
Tuesday at 2 p.m, Rev. Jack Palmer officiating. Burial was in Apple
River cemetery.
