DES BARRES, Elma Bessie - 70, Gay’s River passed away January 4, 2011,
in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro following a brief illness. Born
in Upper Tantallon she was a daughter of the late Ira and Jane
(Boutilier) Chandler. Elma was an avid quilter, enjoyed playing cards
and fishing. She was a dedicated church worker, both in Woodside United
Church, and more recently in Gay's River United Church holding many
offices in both places. For several years, she was president of the
Gay's River Sewing Club and always an eager participant of the group.
Elma was a loving wife and mother and will be sadly missed by husband
Jim; son, Darrell (Sharon), Musquodoboit Harbour; daughters, Cathy
(Leonard) Osborne, Gay's River; Krista (Frankie Ritchie), Seaforth;
grandchildren Sarah, Larissa, Laurene, Leila, Morgan, Wade; sisters,
Marion Coolen, Meta (Fernand) Frenette; brother, Edgel (Sylvia)
Chandler. She was predeceased by three children in infancy; four
sisters, and three brothers. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will
be 6-8 pm today and funeral service will be 11 am Friday, both in Gay's
River United Church, Lori Crocker, DM officiating. The family will meet
friends for a reception downstairs in the church following the service.
Burial will be in William Black Memorial United Church Cemetery, Glen
Margaret. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Gay's River
United Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral
Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
