OBITUARY:
BROWN, Horace Morton Woolridge - 82, Bass River, died December 27, 1997.
Born in 1915 in Parrsboro, he was a former resident of various areas of Nova
Scotia and Newfoundland. He was known internationally as "Bumps the Clown"
with Philae Shrine Temple 128; past boss clown of Philae Temple, and past
president of North East Shrine Clown Association. In 1997 at the North East
Shrine Clown Institute in Massachusetts, the Class of 1997 was dedicated "In
Honor of Noble Horace (Bumps) Brown". He was a 32 degree Mason and past
master of Masonic lodges. He was a generous supporter of the Shriner's
Hospital for Children and IWK Hospital, burn unit. He was an adherent of the
Anglican Church and an active participant in the affairs of the church.
Horace was a civil engineer and served six years Overseas with the Royal
Canadian Engineers. He retired from the civil service in 1881. He dedicated
his life to helping others, and had a very soft spot in his heart for
children. Predeceased by his parents, Clarence and Etta Brown; infant son,
Philip. He is survived by his loving wife, Annie Mae (known as Mrs. Bumps),
daughter of Harry and Florence Hall, East Mountain; sons, Orvin, Seattle,
Wash.; Alan, Enfield; Eric, Yellowknife, N.W.T.; Garth, Lake Echo; Norman,
Truro; daughters, Carol Goddard, Tantallon; Lynne McDormond, Middlewood;
Susan McDormond, Crousetown; Mae Busch, Edmonton, Alta; Sylvia de Vlaming,
Saint John, N.B.; Kathy Creelman, Upper Stewiacke; Ramona Brown, Bass River.
Loved by 23 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; and extended
families; sisters, Emma Teed and Rita Welsh. Visitation today, December 30,
from 2-4, 7-9 p.m., in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St.,
Truro, from where a funeral service to celebrate his life will be held
Wednesday, December 31 at 2 p.m. To honor his memory, donations may be made
to Shriner's Hospital for Children, Shriner's Travel Fund (Philae Temple,
Box 9050, Station A, Halifax, B3k 5M7), IWK Burn Unit or any children's
charity.
