FUNERAL: Mrs. Clarence Brown
Following a long illness, the death of Mrs. Clarence Brown of Diligent
River, occurred at South Cumberland Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, April
2nd. She was 62 years of age. The daughter of the late John William Lewis
and Sarah Ellen (MacAloney) Lewis, she was born in Parrsboro on May 30th,
1895, where she received her education. On December 26th, 1911, she became
the bride of Clarence Brown of Parrsboro. In 1918, the couple moved to
Springhill where Mr. Brown was employed in the mines for many years.
Following his retirement, the couple moved to Diligent River, where they
have since resided. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her passing two
daughters and one son; Emma (Mrs. Wilfred Teed), Springhill; Rita (Mrs.
Herbert Rushton), Parrsboro; and Hance M. Brown, Westmount South, Cape
Breton. Also surviving are one sister and three brothers, Jennie (Mrs.
Albert Hodges), Springhill; Milford Lewis, Cambridge, Mass.; Michael Lewis,
Halifax; and Archie Lewis, Windham, as well as 16 grandchildren and two
great grandchildren, Allen and Linda Cameron of Port Howe. Three sisters
ands a brother predeceased her. Mrs. Brown was a member of St. George's
Anglican Church in Parrsboro. Although bedfast for five years, she never
complained. She had a keen mind and was friendly to all. Funeral services
were held in St. George's Anglican Church on Friday, April 4th at noon,
conducted by Rev. W.R. Anthony. The choir sang the hymns: "Weary Of Earth",
"When On The Day Of Life The Night Is Falling" and "The Sands Of Time Are
Sinking", all specially requested by the deceased. Interment was in Hillside
Cemetery, Springhill, where the service was conducted by Rev. W. Maurice
Knickle, rector of All Saint's Anglican Church. Pallbearers were Messrs,
James, Onslow and Dexter Legere, and Clyde Millbury.
