Alexandra Mansour 1925-2010
Alexandra (Khoury) Mansour, Amherst, died at home, December 25, 2010,
after enjoying a day of Christmas celebrations with her beloved family.
Alexandra was born in Kilhat, El Koura, Lebanon, to Hanni and Father
Hanna Khoury. She came as a bride to Canada in 1948. She raised four
children and ran a household that often included extended family
members. She was famous for her cooking and in 1983 was delighted to
publish a collection of recipes called, "Alexandra's Lebanese Cooking."
Her cabbage rolls were an expected and appreciated item at every church
potluck. Alexandra enjoyed the outdoors and loved her cottage on the
Amherst Shore. Until recently she walked regularly in all weather. She
golfed and won awards for putting at the Amherst Golf Club. She was a
member of the Amherst Kinettes and a social member of the Amherst
Curling Club. As a member of Christ Church, she was active in various
organizations. She was funny, wise and philosophical. She loved to
laugh, sing, visit neighbours and friends, and share the bounty of her
gardens. She had great faith and cherished life. Her family was of the
utmost importance and nothing made her happier than her grandchildren,
Mikhial and Adele. Alexandra is survived by her daughter Jeanette and
husband Alex Kajka, Sacramento, California; Valerie and partner Douglas
Blackmore, Halifax; sons George, Oxford; Robert and wife Deanne
Fitzpatrick and children Mikhial and Adele, Brookdale; brother George
Khoury, Selwaand family, Amherst; and sister Adele Khoury and family,
Beirut. She has several nieces and nephews in Canada, the U.S., Lebanon,
and Jordan. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Theo on
Thanksgiving Day 2006. She was also predeceased by her sisters Victoria
Joseph, Amherst, and Matille, Kilhat, Lebanon; and her brother, Michele,
Beirut, Lebanon. By request there will be a private family service. A
