Subject: [nscumber] Obit: VICKERY, Gary

Gary Vickery 1942-2010

Gary Malcome Vickery (Papa) 68, died peacefully Wednesday, August 18, 2010 after
a short battle with cancer. Born in The Joggins, he was a son of the late Curtis
and Edith (Sweeney) Vickery. Gary worked his early years in Toronto and Hamilton
managing several warehouse positions in that area. Returning to The Joggins in
1978, he worked with the School for the Deaf until retirement. Gary had a
passion for life and gave of himself to the community through genealogy,
photography and music. An accomplished soloist and author, he entertained
everyone with his musical talent and recently wrote "The Joggins, it's history
and it's people" which was released in 2009. An entertainer, Gary always had a
joke for his friends, many of which he would meet at his 10 am and 2 pm trips to
Tim Horton's. He was a member of the Joggins Legion and Genealogy Societies. A
family man, Gary will be greatly missed by his wife of 35 years, Doris
(MacDonald); 2 sons, Steven (Maria) and Glen; daughters, Shannon, Mary (Danny
Harrison) and Crystal (Steven Matthews); 5 grandchildren, Brooke, Brandon,
Katie, Kelly and Faith; sisters, Gail (Jack) Moore and Joy (Greg) Brown; several
nieces and nephews. Gary's remains have been cremated under the care and
supervision of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777) from where a
memorial service will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 2 pm. Friends and
family are invited to a time of visitation Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, River Hebert. Donations to the Canadian Cancer
Society or a charity of the donor's choice would be gratefully accepted.
