Obit: GRAY, Michelle Elizabeth

GRAY, Michelle Elizabeth - 38, of New York City, beloved daughter and wife, passed away with her family at her side in Calvary Hospital, New York City on Saturday , April 10, 2010 Born July 20 , 1971 in Halifax , Michelle was the daughter of Joyce and Paul Gray, Pugwash. She is survived by husband, Gregory Yetman, New York City; special aunt and ''second mother", Jean Nicholson (Brian McChesney) Cape Coral, Fla; grandmother and best friend, Mary Jane Gray, Halifax; grandfather, Allison Nicholson, Hantsport; as well as aunts and uncles, George (Eliane [sic]) Gray, Cathy Peddle (Mike Brown), Julia Ann (Ken) Verge, Greg (Gail) Gray, Jessie (Clyde) Brewer and several cousins. Michelle was predeceased by her grandfather, George Gray and her grandmother, Mildred Nicholson. Michelle received her early education in Halifax at Convent of the Sacred Heart and Halifax West High School She received her BA from Acadia University and attended Mount Saint Vincent University. She received her BEd from the University of Maine. Michelle's passion was teaching. During the past five years she was a gifted social studies teacher and teacher mentor for the City of New York Department of Education. Before moving to New York Michelle worked in Cannes, France; Calgary, and Halifax. Starting at a very young age she travelled extensively and developed many hobbies. Most importantly she participated in them with those who enjoyed them as much as she did. Michelle shared her love of horses with her father, her love of art with her mother, and her zest and love of life with her husband Greg. Michelle cultivated and valued her extended family of friends around the globe. Too numerous to list you know who you are. They will all miss her stories, oh, those stories, the next one more delightful than the one before. Many good times were shared with her lifelong friend Tricia (John) Stewart, Oxford. The family wishes to extend a thank you to her friends Christine and Brian Mello, Bermuda who contributed much to making her last year so memorable. The family wishes also to thank Michelle's medical team at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center for their efforts and wonderful care over the past year and a half. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Michelle's life will take place in the city of New York. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 21 in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax from 12:30 - 2 p.m. where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. in Snows chapel followed by a reception. No flowers by request.
