OBITUARY: Ernest Gilbert
The death occurred in the Springhill Hospital, Springhill, early Tuesday
morning of Ernest Gilbert of Athol. He had been seriously ill only this past
three weeks. Prior to hospitalization three weeks ago, he enjoyed good
health. He was 74 years of age, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Gilbert
of Lakelands, Cumberland County. He was born inn Lakelands, where he resided
until his marriage in 1917. For the past 23 years he has resided in Athol,
where he owned and operated his own farm from which he retired about 14
years ago. For a number of years he resided in Oxford, Berwick and
Lakelands. He was a machinist by trade, which he followed during his younger
years. Surviving are his wife, the former Georgie Wood; two daughters,
Ethel (Mrs. Maxwell Gilbert), of Lakelands; Lois (Mrs. Hilton Moore), of
Parrsboro; four sons, Elmer, Lawson, Vaughn and Murray, all of Athol; one
sister, Mrs. Edna Johanson, of Amherst; one brother, Maurice Gilbert, of
Parrsboro; also 26 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. The late Mr.
Gilbert rested at his late residence in Athol from where the funeral service
was held Thursday afternoon, May 19, at 2:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev.
Harold Higgins. Burial was made in Athol Cemetery.
