I have found documents in my deceased mother's notes regarding Sidney Owen
Hazel - 1901 - 1961. (On his Marriage Certifficate on NS Stats, he lists
himself as 25 when he married in 1931, which would make him born in 1906 -
this agrees with his obituary below)
The information comes from the late Laurie Munro, who personally knew Sidney
O. Hazel in Kings County, NS. This is how he related it:
Isaac Hazel, farmer, m. Mary Sarsfield in Dec. 19, 1872.
1891 Kings County Census gives their household in Sheffield Mills as
follows:
Issac, head, 41
Mary, wife, 40
Dennis, son, 17
Maggie, daughter, 16 (later married Peter Hendricks or Kendricks, a Chief of
Police in Parrsboro, NS)
Edward, son, 13
Henry, son 11
Estella, daughter, 9
Agnes, daughter, 6
Dressy (Tressa (?)) , daughter, 3
David, son, 10 months.
Laurie Munroe says Teresa became mother to Sydney while unmarried, so he
kept his Hazel surname. She later married Fred Magee in Kentville, Aug. 12,
1912. Teresa died at age 34 yrs. 14 days on May 24, 1923. Buried at
Hillaton, NS.
Trust this may help some in their research. If you have any additions or
comments/corrections, I would appreciate the information. It appears in the
Census they varied in reporting the ages of the children and
spouses..........they likely had their own reasons for falsely reporting
ages.

Sidney Owen Hazel can't be Isaac's son as Isaac was a widower since before
1901.
He lists Isaac and Theresa as his parents on his marriage document to Bertha
Jennie Brewster on 12 Nov 1931.
Did Theresa have him out of wedlock before she married Fred Magee on 12 Aug
1912?
Theresa Hazel is a sister to Gertrude May (Hazel) Kendrick / Hendrick /
Murphy of recent discussions.

OBITUARY: Sidney Owen Hazel
Sidney Owen Hazel died suddenly at his home, 4 Avenue A., Imperoyal. He was
54. He was a resident of Dartmouth for the past 18 years and a well known
taxi driver for the past ten. He is survived by his wife, the former Bertha
Brewster of Baxter Harbour, Kings County; a daughter, Sandra, at home; seven
sons, Sheldon, Dartmouth; Vincent, Glace Bay; Owen, Lake Echo; Ernest, Camp
Petawawa, Ont.; Wayne, Miles and Larry, at home. His remains will be taken
from Mattatall's Funeral Home, Dartmouth to the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home,
Kentville, Friday morning. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2
p.m. in the Baxter Harbour Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will be at
Baxter Harbour.
