In response to a recent inquiry as to location of New Philadelphia.

I came across an article recently - Historical Notes: Parrsboro and Vicinity
--- within its pages it had a reference to New Philadelphia. Following is
from article:

"Previous to the beginning of the Revolutionary War, 1775 or 1776, a company
was formed in Philadelphia and came up Cobequid or Chebucto Bay, otherwise
knowsn as the Basin of Minas, and settled along the shores between Partridge
Island and the river now called Harrington River and being the boundary line
between Colchester and Cumberland. On this river they built a saw mill and
had a store near Swan Creek.
They named their territory New Philadelphia and it was so called when Gov.
Parr came here at the close of the war."

If further information is desired, please e-mail me at biblehill@rogers. com

interesting.
