Wednesday, February 2, 2000.

Ken MELANSON of Springhill was honoured by the Central Nova Tourist
Association for his dedication in promoting the Springhill Miners
Museum. He had been involved with the museum for about 12 years, taking
daily care of it, conducting tours of the former coal mine, and talking
to students. Mr. Melanson was trapped in the No. 4 mine during the 1956
mine explosion. He was only 19 at the time.

Died - Ethel Jean HICKEY, 96, formerly of Malagash, January 26.
Died - Kenneth M. PEERS, born in Pugwash.
Died - Staff Sgt. Dale Roy KING, 53, January 25.
Died - John Robert (Jack) TABOR, 66, Springhill, January 28.
Died - Stanley PASHKOSKI, 72, Leamington, January 27.

Wednesday, January 31, 1990.

Wayne and Crystal TRENHOLM and their two children of Northport lost most
of their possessions when their home was completely gutted by a fire
that broke out while the family was away between 9:30 and 10:00 p.m.
Saturday evening.

Died - G.Jean WELLS-JEWKES, 73, January 22.
Died - Orland Salter FENTON, 84, Wyvern, January 26.

Oxford's new medical centre opens Friday, February 1, with Dr. David
GORDON as the first tenant.

Bruce D. HUNTER, Cumberland County representative on the Provincial
Executive of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, teacher at ORHS and
commanding officer of No. 2553 Oxford Cadet Corps, died January 26 as
the result of a motor vehicle accident at Folly Lake on January 19.

Died - Mrs. Charlotte A. (Ripley) LANGILE, 77, Williamsdale, January 25.
Died - Mrs. Sarah Trudy (Weeks) THOMPSON, 80, Pugwash.

Born January 23, 1920 to Charles and Rosa (Tavender) Summers. Missed by
his wife, the former Christena Henwood (married November 1994) and her
children, Marlene (Eric) and Brian (Cathy). Predeceased by his first
wife, Florence with whom he had two daughters. (Obit has photo)
