Re: MOORE family question

No problem shirley.  I am an executive assistant which basically means I am a paper pusher.  I  work with lots of data at a time.

I am not sure if comparison chart would be a genealogy term per say but you can compare anything using a chart.  Any large amount of data should be in a database.  (Could be the next geek project.  A paper pusher's dream.  lol).  Small amounts of data can be done in a chart for easy visibility.  Word or Excel.

Basically in the case of the Moores we want to compare the original siblings and the data we can come up with to see if it matches with the others or it disproves a relationship. Currently I have the following fields:
* Name
* Date of Birth
* Location of Birth
* Religion
* Census info (You can put in fields for all Census with the location, religion etc. if you choose)
* Occupation
* Parents listed per marriage source(s)
* Parents listed per death source(s)
* Land Records (if any)
* Additonal notes
*  Keep in mind to add sources so you know where the data came from and it is at your fingertips.

Tonight I am knee deep in Simpsons from the Nancy Moore line.  Part of her line moved to Columbus (per US Census info and Mary Hannon Obituary posted on site).  I haven't looked at this for awhile and now that I have been reasearching for awhile I find I am able to find data I could not before.

If you ever want me to start you up some charts or a database let me know. ( I am not sure how savy you are with software programs.)  I am on maternity leave right now so have some extra time.

If you can think of any other fields that should be added to run a comparison on the Moore siblings let me know.

Hi Valerie, I am also into genealogy and you said you were compiling a comparison chart on your Moore family tree Please tell me how to compile acomparison chart, I really need someone to help me ! Thanks Shirley.

Cal, just when I thought the laundry was going to be done for the day. lol. Lots of food for thought.

John Moore of Goose River may not be related to the Moores of River Phillips.

I am compiling a comparison chart of the Moores in my tree for easy read. I do know that the William Moore who was siblings of Jane Moore (married to Capt William B Henley) stayed in Cumberland County. He was living with Jane in 1871 per the Census at age 72.

Always good to see more info come to light.

Valerie

This letter below is another that puts into perspective the family and those who recorded these early happenings. One must believe that these family discussions were much cherished by those involved back in the 1930's.

Letter from William Cabler Moore to F.J. Leigh Moore, Dec 18, 1933

My Dear Cousin,

Your letter mailed last night in Boston reached me safely today, and I was glad to hear from some more of my kin. As you will note from the above address, I have moved from where I lived last year. I have not written our cousin Mr. C. W. Moore in some time.
I have been working on my ancestral lines, both on my mother's side and my father's for several years.
Much of the information I have about the Moore's was given to me by my father William, his sister Mrs. Rachel Pittman and his brother James.

Here is what I know of the Moore line. Between 1700 and 1770 in the North of Ireland ______ Moore had two sons, and probably other children. Around 1780 – 1790 these two sons lived in County Down. From them, two lines descend. Both have branches in Tennessee and one, ours, also in other parts of North America. I shall designate our branch by "A".

A The Moore family descended from _________ Moore and Rachel Montgomery.

A-1 About 1790 _____ Moore married Rachel Montgomery.* see below
>From this union there were these children:

A-2 John – He is your [F. J. Leigh Moore's] great grandfather
A-3 Andrew - He probably came to America; no record of his line.
A-4 Samuel – He married Ann Beatty in County Down; emigrated to Manchester,England and hence to Nashville, Tenn..
Children: Joseph m. ? in Nashville, Tenn.
Mollie, living in Nashville in 1933
James, never married.
A-5 Alexander – Probably came to America (New York?). No records.
A-6 James – remained in Ireland. I have written to the pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Newtownards, County Down and to the County Clerk of Down for information about the Moore's, but had no reply.
A-7 Anne – came to this country, married Mr. Barr, and settled in the Mohawk Valley of New York.
A-8 William – My great grandfather was born in County Down in 1799. He married Elizabeth Lowry or Lowe of Manchester, England in 1824. He died in 1849 and was buried in Manchester.

There is more to this letter and I have thoroughly researched what W.C.Moore has written. His work was quite accurate. He was a professional in all respects. I have added to what he has recorded as well. I have provided this letter to point out how little is known about the other Moore siblings. Perhaps one of you can provide further information about John's brothers and sister - Andrew, Alexander, James and Anne?
