RUSHTON, Eileen Mae - 69, Eastern Passage, died August 2, 1994, in
Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the
late Robert and Jessie (Helpard) Walker. She was formerly employed with
Simpson's and Moirs Chocolates, both in Halifax. She is survived by two
sons, Douglas, Neil, both of Dartmouth; four daughters, Debrah Crockatt,
Lawrencetown, Annapolis County; Gail (Mrs. Owen Golar), Sackville; Kim
(Mrs. Tom Peach), East Chezzetcook; Susan (Mrs. Norm Pickrem), Halifax;
her twin brother, Ernie, Jasper, Alta.; sister, Ruth (Mrs. Eugene
Nicoll), Bedford; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. She was
predeceased by her husband, Gordon; sister, Marjorie. Visitation will be
7-9 p.m. tonight in J. Albert Walker and Sons Funeral Home, Cole
Harbour, where funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday. Cremation will follow.

Gillis, Byron Archibald

GILLIS, Byron Archibald - 60, Granville Ferry, Annapolis Co., died
February 21, 1995, in Halifax Infirmary. Born in Berwick, Kings Co., he
was a son of the late Ted and Eunice (Sawler) Gillis. He was a member of
the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was employed with Maritime Central
Airways, Quebec. He was formerly employed with CFB Cornwallis for 22
years until his retirement in 1989. While employed there, he was a
welfare officer for UNDE local 401 and was actively involved with the
employment assistance program. He was a member and trustee of Granville
Ferry United Baptist Church; member of Masonic Lodge 33 and actively
involved for several years with the cub and scout movement. Surviving
are his wife, the former Jean Irene Butler; son, Ted, West Dalhousie;
daughters, June (Mrs. Gary Weare), Marlene (Mrs. Darrell Jefferson),
Upper Clements; Heather (Mrs. Kevin Moore), Victoria, B.C.; Kathy (Mrs.
Leonard Wampler), Edmonton, Alta.; Holly (Mrs. Scott Schaffner),
Hammonds Plains; Hope (Mrs. Medford Hogan), Parkers Cove; sister,
Gwendolyn Coleman, Centrelea; half-sister, Birdie Banks, Berwick; 15
grandchildren. He was predeceased by half-brothers, Clinton, Thomas,
Howard, Gordon, Russell; half-sister, Leta Whitman. Family will receive
visitors 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in the family residence, where a masonic

was a son of the late Stephen and Mary (Crossman) Dunphy. He was a
retired heavy equipment operator. Surviving are his wife, the former
Dalphene Hughes; daughter, Lynn, Fox River; son, Burton, Dartmouth;
sister, Mrs. Lena Marsh, Lower Five Islands; two grandsons. Funeral will

Yarmouth County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude
(Ellis) Crosby. She was a member of Cambridge Baptist Church and active
in church and community affairs in her early years. She is survived by
her husband, Edgar; daughter, Stephanie (Mrs. Phillip Vogler), Berwick;
two brothers, Jack, Brooklyn Street; William, Coldbrook; two sisters,
Elizabeth (Betty) (Mrs. Forrest Lyons), Blomidon; Patsy (Mrs. Grant

was a member of the Third Horton Baptist Church, Canaan. She is survived
by a son, Charles, Yarmouth; two daughters, Elizabeth (Beth) Amero,
Canaan; Linda Schofield, Alberta; five brothers, George, Avard, both of
New Minas; Perry, Annapolis; Donald, North Alton; Edgar, Woodville;
eight sisters, Gladys Welton, Kentville; Hattie Dodge, North Alton;
Jennie McKinnie, Nellie Ward, both of Toronto; Susan Ells, Mississauga,
Ont.; Mamie Hudson, Annapolis; Hilda Cullen, Trenton, Ont.; Sadie Weir,

Glenmont, Kings Co., he was a son of the late Trueman Wesley and
Elizabeth Sophia (Frail) Butler. He was employed in construction, truck
driving, carpentry, Irving Oil delivery and was retired from the
Department of Highways, Kings Co. He is survived by his wife, the former
Shirley May Holt Gilliatt; daughters, Marlene (Mrs. Manning Sanford),
Centreville, Kings Co.; Brenda (Mrs. Jack Parker), Kingsport, Kings Co.;
Cathy (Mrs. Todd Jones), Berwick, Kings Co.; stepdaughter, Julia
Gilliatt, Halifax; sister, Georgia (Mrs. Wesley Misner), Centreville;
six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his

Bates, Frank E.

BATES, Frank E. - 71, Mill Street, Parrsboro, died July 24, 1999, in
South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. Born in Freeport, he
was a son of the late Elmer and Daisy (Moore) Bates. He graduated from
Truro Normal College in 1948. He taught school in the Annapolis Valley
for two years. He moved to London, Ontario where he worked as a salesman
and later branch manager for Mills Steel Products. He later moved to
Toronto where he was branch manager for the same company. He accepted a
position with Anthes Equipment in Ottawa. He then opened a branch in
Halifax where he worked until his retirement in 1991. He was a graduate
of St. Mary's University with a diploma in Business Administration.
Surviving are his wife, the former Audrey Yorke; sons, Jeffrey,
Parrsboro; Frank, Old Chelsea, Que.; brothers, Gilbert, Middleton; Neil,
Toronto; two grandchildren. Private family service today in St. George's
Anglican Cemetery, Parrsboro, Rev. Robert Richmond officiating.

Atwell, Leonard Ralph

ATWELL, Leonard Ralph - 55, Melanson Mountain, Kings Co., died July 11,
1999, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Wolfville, he was
the son of Lillian (Messom), Wolfville, and the late Ralph Atwell. He
was a life long resident of Melanson Mountain and had been employed with
S. G. Levy and Sons Lumber Mill for 30 years. He had a great love of
horses and the outdoors. Surviving are brothers, Larry, Gordon, Melanson
Mountain; sisters, Erma Balcom, Melanson Mountain; Susan Hiltz,
Wolfville; Darlene Csernyik, Greenwich; several nieces and nephews. He
was predeceased by brother, Dale. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today,

Leamont, Charles William

LEAMONT, Charles William - 70, 686 Onslow Rd., Truro, passed away April
6, 1998, in Colchester Regional Hospital. Born in Truro, he was a son of
the late Charles W. and Frances (Hopkins) Leamont. He worked with the
Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment mechanic for
approximately 20 years. Prior to this, he worked with Euclid Equipment
and Dom-Tar Ltd. Since his retirement, he owned and operated Charlie's
Custom Framing in Onslow. He was a member of Truro Lodge 43, AF&AM,
a 32nd degree Royal Arch Mason and a member of Myrtle Chapter 21, OES.
He is survived his companion, Carol Bradley; daughter, Ellen Leamont,
Onslow; sons, David, Truro; Gary and wife Jeanette, Bible Hill; sisters,
Annie and husband Maurice Fleet, British Columbia; Judy Carter, Onslow;
Gracie and husband Russell MacCabe, Harmony Road; grandchildren, Darcie
Hatt, Michael Hatt, Shayne Leamont, Craig Leamont, Margaret Leamont;
step-grandchildren, Kenda Goulding and Keith MacKenzie; two
great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret J.
Sterling; sister, Ruth Blaauwendraat. Visitation will be held today and
Wednesday from 7-9 p.m., Masonic tribute service Wednesday at 7 p.m.,
funeral service Thursday at 2 p.m., all in Colchester Community Funeral
