LITTLE BASS RIVER - Retired sea captain, Harold R. Jackson, 72, of Little Bass River, died Monday in the Colchester Hospital in Truro, following a period of ill health. Born in Upper Economy, Colchester County, he was a son of the late Charles and Mary (Boomer) Jackson, of Upper Economy. Since his retirement 20 years ago, he resided in Little Bass River. Captain Jackson held a master's certificate for both steam and sail vessels and for about 20 years, he was captain of several Canadian government merchant marine ocean going ships, sailing to all parts of the world. The last four years of his sea life were spent in the Halifax harbor pilot service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Royal Sussex, Halifax Branch, and attended the United Church. Surviving, besides his wife, the former Marion Densmore of Little Bass River, is one sister, Mrs. Lottie Hamilton, Woodville, and several nieces and nephews. His body is at the Patriquin-McCulloch Funeral Home, Great Village. The funeral service will be on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Bass River United Church, Rev. Gordon C. Pringle officiating. Burial will be in the Economy Cemetery.
