VARNER, Medley C. - 89, Diligent River, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 17, 2010, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born April 3, 1920, in Glasgow Mountain, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late Frederick and Leah (Bowden) Varner. He was a retired lumberman. Medley is survived by his daughters, Charlotte (Phil) Clarke, Lower Sackville; Deborah Varner-Clarke (Craig), Kentville; son, Blake (Christa), Truro; sister, Mabel Greene, Middleton; brothers, Aubrey (Leoda), Yorke Settlement; Roy (Janet), Diligent River; Harry (Alexia), Parrsboro; grandchildren, Tara, Ashley and Shane, Lower Sackville; Trenton and Kaitlyn, Kentville; Drake, Truro; former wife, Ethel (Dowe) Varner; many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Bernice and Grace; brothers, Stanley, Edward, Lloyd, Claude, Laurie and Albert and Maynard in infancy. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Glen Haven Manor who took such great care of "Their Smedley" during his time there. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, where the funeral service will be held 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Reception will follow. Interment will be held at a later date in Anglican Cemetery in Diligent River. In lieu of flowers, donations in Medley's memory to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
