OLSEN, Carl - It is with great sadness the family of Carl Olsen, age 72, of Amherst, announce his passing in Dr. Geroge L. DuMont Hospital, Moncton, on Sunday, January 17, 2010, (his birthday) following a lengthy illness. Born in Northport, he was a son of the late Ivan and Hazel (Brownell) Olsen. An avid sports enthusiast, throughout his life he played softball, golf and hockey. He played hockey for many teams but most notably the MacDonald Fun Timers. A family man, his passion was spending time at the cottage with his grandchildren. Prior to retirement he was a dedicated 29 year employee with NS Power and 10 years with NB Power. Carl will be sadly missed by his wife, Nancy (Doherty); daughter, Sharron (Perry) Ayer, Lower Sackville; son, Stephen, Amherst; grandchildren, Kirsten, Kelsie and Ethan; brothers, Harry (Karlene), Northport; and Eric (Ruby), L'Etete, N.B.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Lillian. Carl's remains have been cremated under the direction of Furlong Jones Funeral Home (667-8777), Amherst. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, January 20, at 2 p.m., Rev. Donald Miller officiating. Burial in Northport Cemetery in the spring. Carl's family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral. MILLER, Lillian J. - 73, Amherst, died April 23, 2007, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. She was a daughter of the late Ivan and Hazel (Brownell) Olsen. Surviving are sons, Ivan, Ronald, Michael; daughters, Linda McEwen, Angela MacGuigan; brothers, Carl, Harry Sr., Eric; grandchildren, Mikel, Nicole, Courtney; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906), where funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel, Rev.
