TRENTON � Gladys Morey (nee Hemwood), age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 10, 2010, at Valley View Villa in Riverton, with family at her side. Born in Parrsboro, N.S, she was a long-time resident of Trenton. Gladys was well known in the area. She worked in the Trenton Shell Shop during the WWII years, then Grant�s Grocery, Forbes Grocery, Jackson�s Florist and ultimately the Steeltown Pharmacy until her retirement. While working, Gladys raised a son, with the help of her parents. Later, with the assistance of her siblings, she was the primary care-giver for her elderly parents. She supported both the Anglican Church and United Church in Trenton.Gladys is survived by son, Robert; grandsons, Brian and Dale (to whom she was known always as "Nana"); sisters: Pearl Rose, Charlotte MacDonald (Donald) and Francis MacDonald; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many cousins.
She was predeceased by her father and mother, Nelson and Elva Hemwood; sisters, Margaret Kidd and Hazel Reardon; brother, Robert Hemwood; and daughter-in-law, Carol.Special thanks to Dr. Spencer Barclay, for his personal care over many years. Also the staff of: High-Crest Place; the Long-Term Care of the Aberdeen Hospital; the Valley View Villa; the personal care givers of the Pictou County Home Health Co-op; and especially Charlotte and her family. All deserve special mention because they did so much to make her latter time as pleasant and comfortable as possible.According to Gladys� wishes she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held in the spring in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home in Trenton. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
