Re: NICKERSON - MacALEESE

The third fatal victim of the Nickerson/Chandler tragedy was 28 year old Maurice Banks STEEVES,a native of Barrys Mills ,NB.

He was Principal of Apple River School. Susie Nickerson and Jean Chandler had just completed nurses training at Springhill Hospital and were awaiting their graduation ceremony.

The accident happened at a level train crossing at Auburn, NS. This was a nasty crossing. It was on a curve of the highway and crossed

at a bad angle. Further, trees and shrubs along the line did not permit a good view of approaching trains. It was reported that it was raining heavily at the time of the accident.
