Alexander Forrest (Sandy) Connell, Glace Bay
Born at New Glasgow , Nova Scotia , Canada
It is with saddened hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Sandy, a wonderful husband, brother, uncle and friend on Dec. 23, 2009. Sandy was born in New Glasgow, a son of the late H.O. and Christena (MacKinnon) Connell. Sandy lived most of his life in Pugwash returning to his wife's hometown about 15 years ago. Sandy was a veteran of the Second War, serving overseas with the Air Force for three years in England (London Blitz). He was a member of Branch 60 Royal Canadian Legion, Pugwash. Sandy worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia, Waltham Piers Trucking and at the Windsor Salt Mine as watchman from where he retired. Sandy enjoyed the Highland Games, hunting and fishing, travelling, gardening, reading, farming and horses; and especially, spending time with family and friends. Sandy leaves to mourn, his wife and best friend, Theresa (MacDonald); sister, Peggy (late Ivan) Shortlive, Truro; brother, Edwin (Lala) Connell, Florida; sister-in-law, Lillian Connell, Ontario; numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his constant companion, his dog Meagan. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Jack Connell. Sandy's wish was to have his body donated to Dalhousie University. A mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, New Aberdeen, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Pugwash. Condolences may be sent to jmcurry@....
