MASON, Gwendolyn "Gwen" - The death of Gwendolyn "Gwen" Mason, age 66, of Amherst, occurred in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Monday, February 23, 2009. Born in Leicester, she was a daughter of the late Gerald and Georgina (Doncaster) Bishop. After graduation from Amherst Regional High School, she received a secretarial certificate from St. Charles Commercial School. Throughout her working years, she held positions with Agriculture Canada (Nappan Experimental Farm), Margolians and Reitmans. After raising her family she was employed as a medical secretary for various Amherst physicians. Gwen was an active member of Immanuel United Church and a recent volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross. A wife and mother, Gwen will be sadly missed by George Mason, her husband of 47 years; daughters, Vicky (Tom) Garland and Nancy (Kirby) Papic; son, Wayne (Lauranne); daughter-in-law, Sandra Mason; grandchildren, Hannah, Jacob, Kirsten, Liam and Alec; brother, Wayne (Evelyn) Bishop and sister, Darlene MacPherson. She was predeceased by her son, David in 2008 and brothers, Ralph and Donald. Gwen's remains have been entrusted into the care of Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777), from where a memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 26, at 2 p.m., Rev. David Lloyd-Bruce officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Tidnish, in the spring. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation in the funeral home today from 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cumberland Health Care Foundation - Palliative Care, or a charity of the donor's choice appreciated. www.furlongjones.ca
