Obit: GOODWIN, Harry Melvin "Pappy"
GOODWIN, Harry Melvin "Pappy" - Aged 94 years, of Victoria Street, Springhill, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2009, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Nappan. Born in Amherst, he was a son of Major A. and Melissa (Rushton) Goodwin. He worked in the Springhill coal mines from 1940 - 1958 then with Sunny Boy Bakery, Amherst. He was an adherent of St. Andrews Wesley United Church, Springhill, and enjoyed fishing, gardening and his family. He is survived by sons, Robert (Joy) Goodwin, Dartmouth and Gary (Janet) Goodwin, Boutilier's Point; daughter, June (Ernie) Rooke, Fenwick; sister, Doris Stonehouse, Springhill; grandchildren, Cathy, Sandra, Shawna and Leanne; great-grandchildren, Bobby, Nicholas, Vittoria "Tori" and Joseph, all of Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Marion E. Nelson; brother, Robert; sister, June. Cremation has taken place. A memorial funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 28, from A. H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, with The Rev. Bob Mack officiating. Burial in Mapleton Cemetery, Cumberland Co., at a later date. Family flowers only by request.
