OBITUARY: Levi Best
The death of Levi Best occurred at South Cumberland Memorial Hospital on
October 20th. He had been hospitalized only a few days. Mr. Best was born in
Maitland, Hants County, N.S., in 1884, the son of the late Samuel S. Best
and Sarah F. Best. In 1909 he married the former Alice Lenoardton in
Maitland, who preceded him in 1928. A son, Charles, also predeceased him. He
is survived by a daughter, Dora (Mrs. Paul Murphy), of Milton, Mass.; one
brother, Gordon Best of Saint John; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Harrison, New
Glasgow, and Mrs. Elsie Phinney, Parrsboro. The late Mr. Best attended
school in Parrsboro and chose as an occupation that of a seaman. He retired
in 1954 and has made his home in Parrsboro for the last few years. The
funeral service was held from St. George's Anglican Church, of which he was
a member, at 2 p.m., on October 23rd, Rev. Edward Tuck conducting the
service and the choir sang the hymns: "Unto The Hills" and "Now The
Laborer's Task Is O'er".Pallbearers were: Eatl Smith, John Phinney, Wilford
Canning, Harry Smith, Harold Sheck and James Llewellyn.
