1950 OBITUARY
LORIN GOODWIN
With representatives of the Police Forces in Amherst, Springhill and Sackville, members of the R.C.M.P., and of Ivy Lodge, I.O.O.F., as well as many friends and relatives from different parts of the province present, the funeral of the late chief of Police Lorin Goodwin was held from the home, Terrace Street, Monday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. Rev. H.K. Grimmer, pastor of First Baptist Church, conducted the service and spoke comforting words to the bereaved family in their sudden and tragic loss. He was assisted by Rev. Frank Sinnoit, Baptist pastor in Springhill, who gave the prayer.
Members of the Baptist choir with Mrs. Perry Rafues [sic] as accompanist, sang the hymns, "Have Thine Own Way Lord" and "An Evening Prayer", favorites of the deceased. A solo "Beyond the Sunset," was sympathetically sung by Mrs. H.K. Grimmer.
Members of Ivy Lodge, of which order the deceased was a member, conducted their ritual at the cemetery. This was directed by Wylie Gorveatte, who was assisted by A.H. Schurman. The remains were placed in the vault and burial will take place in the spring.
The pallbearers were Farnell Simpson, James Brander, James McCarthy and Madie Devine, members of the Amherst Police Force, arch Fraser and A.E. Rockwell. There was a profusion of beautiful floral tributes.
Among those from out of tow attending the service were three daughters of the deceased and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. William Taylor of Kentville, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fisher of Springhill and Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Murdock of Truro; a brother, Hedley Goodwin of Taunton, Mass., a sister-in-law, Mrs. William R. Perry of Auburn, Mass., and two nephews, Murray Goodwin of Saint John and Arch Baraby of Taunton, Mass. Donald McFarlane of Moncton, a son-in-law, and Brigadier and Mrs. H.W. Murdock of Truro, were also here for the service.
Many relatives and friends were present from Springhill and Sackville. Police Chief Bowes and Constable Card of the Sackville Police Force, Chief Buchanan, Deputy Chief McDonald and Constable Bonnyman of the Springhill Force, Cpl. William Taylor and Constable McAvoy of the R.C.M.P., Springhill Detachment, as well as those of the local Detachment also attended the service.
