OBITUARY: James A. Best
The death of James A. Best occurred suddenly at his home at Riverside on
Friday, December 3, 1965, at the age of 83. Born in Maitland, N.S., in 1882,
he was the son of the late Samuel and Sarah Best. In 1909 he married Alfreda
Moore of Parrsboro, N.S. His wife passed away six years ago. He is survived
by sons, Fred and Bill, Parrsboro; daughters, Gladys (Mrs. Hilton Roberts),
of Parrsboro; Winnie (Mrs. Walter Grint), Parrsboro; Eva (Mrs. Ennis Ross),
Stoney Island, Shelburne County. Also, surviving are brothers, Gordon, Saint
John, N.B.; Levi, Parrsboro; sisters, Mrs. Elsie Phinney and Mrs. Annie
Harrison, both of Parrsboro. The deceased came to Parrsboro as a young boy
and was a seaman until his retirement in 1954. He was an adherent of the
United Church. He was well liked by all who knew him. He was known as
"Grampy" Best to all the little children on Riverside. The funeral service
was held on Monday, December 6, at 2:30 p.m. Fron Trinity United Church,
with Rev Arnold Mitton officiating.Hymns were: "Rock Of Ages" and "Abide
With Me". Pallbearers were: John Coombs, Crayden Wood, James Smith, Gerald
Guilderson, Owen Patterson, Harry Smith, Leo Guilderson and Boyd Yorke.
Interment was made in the United Cemetery.
