Everett Matthew (Red) Varner

Obituary-Varner, Everett Matthew (Red) - 77, 34 Windsor Ave., Bible Hill,
died May 19, 1995, at home. Born at Diligent River, Cumberland Co., he was a
son of the late Joseph Anson and Emma Amelia (Dow) Varner. He was a carman
with Canadian National Railways for 38 years and a member of the Brotherhood
Carmen of America where he was local chairman for a number of years. He was
a member of the Truro corps of the Salvation Army where he was a busdriver,
flag sergeant and drummer. He was also an avid horseman. Surviving are his
wife, the former Miriam Evelyn Langille; daughters, Evelyn McNutt,
Vancouver; Jeanette Webb, Barbara (Mrs. Claude Atkinson), Juanita (Mrs.
Kenneth McCabe), Bible Hill; Marie (Mrs. Harry Byron), Dartmouth; Edna
Forbes, Kentville; son, Edward, Bible Hill; sister, Florence (Mrs. Johnny
Thompson), Halifax; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren. He was
predeceased by a daughter, June; brother, Bill; sister, Udevilla; a
grandson. Visitation 3-5, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Sunday, both in
Mattatall Funeral Home, Truro, Lieut. Nelson Watkins and Capt. Craig Rowe
officiating. Burial at a later date in Bible Hill Cemetery. In lieu of
flowers, donations to Izaak Walton Killam Children's Hospital, VON or Truro
Palliative Home Care Unit.
