ARSENAULT, Scott G. "Scottie" - It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather on December 30, 2008, in Maplestone Enhanced Care, Fairview at the young age of 87 years. Born February 7, 1921, in Amherst, he was a son of the late Joseph and Francis (Perry) Arsenault. Scottie lied about his age and ran off to join the Prince Edward Island Highlanders of the Canadian Army serving overseas in the United Kingdom and Central Mediterranean Area until the end of the war. He received the Italy Star -1939/45 star- Defense Medal C.V.S.M. & Clasp. After the war, he stayed in England where he met and married the love of his life, Caroline Shannly. They went on to have four children, daughter, Evelyn (Mrs. Howard Irwin); sons, Bill (Alison), Scott Jr. (Terri-Lee) and Joseph (Cheryl). After coming home to Canada in 1958, and after struggling to find work, he finely landed a job at HMC Dockyard and got his ticket working in the Boiler Shop where he stayed for 20 years before retiring due to injuries sustained during the war. He is survived by sisters, Elizabeth (Starr), Kathleen (Mrs. Bob Mercer); eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by wife of 61 years, Caroline; sisters, Nina and Patsy; brothers Alex, Charlie, Walter, Henry and Robert. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #95, Bedford, having acted as Sergeant At Arms for at least two terms. He was also a driving force behind the establishing of the Royal Canadian Legion in Mount Uniacke. He was a member of the West Novies and The Old Downsview A.B.C. He will be missed by all who knew him, especially all the shoppers he "unofficially greeted in the old K-Mart/Wal-Mart in Downsview Mall. Funeral arrangements are under direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, where visitation will be today from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with a Legion service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 in St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, Father Zachary Romanowsky officiating.
