Thank You Dave and Pam for your replies.
That solves the discrepancy between the Death Registration and the newspaper report - RE: Capt H. Newcomb
Our interest in the Newcomb's is two-fold: "Ann Marie / Anna Maria NEWCOMB" was the great- grandmother of a friend of ours.
As well, Jane's great-grandmother was "Rosanna Amelia Bentley" of Upper Stewiacke, youngest daughter of Noah Bentley and Mary Tupper NEWCOMB. Rosanna came to Fredericton to teach at the Baptist Seminary, married James Richard Hicks Phillips in July 1872 in Upper Stewiacke, N.S.

Subject: [nscumber] Robert Dickson Cutten, born Pugwash , drowned Partridge Island
Reading the article on the drowning of 4 persons from the "Zephyr" at
Partridge Island on 4 Jun 1866, it indicated Capt. Newcombe may possibly
have left a wife and child behind.
" Mr. Newcomb, we believe, has left a wife, and one child to mourn their sad
loss". (Source: Halifax Citizen, Tuesday, June 12, 1866)

Doing a bit of digging, in fact, it was Robert Dickson Cutten who left a
wife and one month old daughter behind.
Cumberland Birth Index:
30 May 1866 20 300 MILL VILLAGE YARMOUTH CUTTEN MARY OLIVIA ROBERT TABITHA
JAN MCKENZIE 6 9 1865 605
This birth indicates Robert m/1 Tabitha McKenzie on 6 Sep 1865 at Yarmouth.
There's a Digby Marriage on the NSARM website where the widow, Tabitha
(McKenzie) Cutten, born Freeport, m/2 George Prime, a fisherman also from
Freeport, on 24 Mar 1870, Baptist, Freeport, Digby County.
Also a 6 Sep 1865 Yarmouth Marriage for Robert and Tabitha indicating Robert
was a mariner and living Parrsboro; born Pugwash; s/o Andrew (?) Cutten.
