Lorenzo Purdy

Happy New Year to All.

Can anyone help me sort out this Purdy conundrom.

I have Mary Jane Purdy (14 Mar 1880 - 29 Oct 1934) married twice: Robert N. Brown (in 1899) & George Patriquin (in 1909). Both marriage registrations show her parents as Lorenzo and Catherine.

The marriage registration in 1874 for Lorenzo Purdy, age 28 (therefore, born abt 1846) and Catherine A. Rushton, age 24, show Lorenzo's parents as Griffin and Polly.

In my records I have a Griffin and Pauline (Polly?) Irving. Are these Lorenzo's parents?

In the Wentworth United Church Cemetery, there is a stone for Lorenzo D. Purdy who "died June 18th 1907 aged 83 years & 8 months" - this makes him born Oct 1923. On this same stone is: Robert N. Brown died Mar. 31st 1906 aged 40 years; His wife, Mary J. Purdy, 1880-1934.

The only sense I can make of this is if there were two Lorenzos: ie, Griffin and Pauline/Polly had a son Lorenzo who married and had a son Lorenzo who married Catherine and produced Mary Jane who, with her first husband, is buried in her grandfather's plot. But then why does Mary Jane's father, Lorenzo, have Griffin and Polly as his parents? Were there two Griffins and only one Lorenzo? But then why the birth date discrepancy? Help...

Can anyone straighten out the Purdys for me? Thank you.

-- Carolyn
