OBIT - Robert E. PARKER, 1958
OBITUARY
PORT GREVILLE - The community was shocked and saddened by the sudden
passing of Mr. Robert E. Parker on Thursday, Dec. 19th, at the home of
his daughter, Mrs. Harold Wilson. Although Mr. Parker had not been
feeling well for the past few weeks, his passing was very unexpected.
He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Amos Parker of Pereau, King's
Co., and came to Port Greville to reside in 1896. He was 82 years old.
He was a member of the K. of P. Victorian Lodge, No. 17 in Port Greville
and the Independent Order of Forresters, a valued member of the Port
Greville Baptist Church of which he was senior deacon, and until a few
years ago took an active part in the Sunday School and Prayer meetings.
He was very interested in politics and was secretary of the Port
Greville School board for the past 25 years. Left to mourn the loss of
a devoted father are five sons, Harold, Carvel, Robert, and Ross of New
York and St. Clair of Willowdale, Ont., four daughters, Mrs. Walter
Elbing (Pauline) and Mrs. Alton Robinson (Eva) of New York; Mrs. Harold
Wilson (Christena) of Port Greville and Mrs. Darrell Tibbetts (Mary) of
Ward's Brook; two sisters and several brothers. His wife, the late Mary
E. Parsons, predeceased him 25 years ago, one daughter Linnie, 13 years
ago, and a son Merle, 3 years ago. Prayer was held at the home for the
family with funeral service in the Baptist Church, conducted by Rev.
Mollins of the Advocate Baptist Church. The Hymns were, "It is well
with My Soul" and "Under His Wings." The pall bearers were members of
the K. of P. Lodge, Messrs. Kenneth J. Cochrane, C.J. Fletcher, Hubert
Murphy, Chester Winter, Chesley Allen and Charlie Murphy. The floral
tributes were many and beautiful. Interment was in the Riverbank
Cemetery, Port Greville.
