Obit: MORRIS, LaVerne P

MORRIS, LaVerne P - 60, Advocate Harbour, Cumberland Co., passed away Thursday, December 25, 2008, in South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro following a short but valiant struggle with cancer. Born March 30, 1948 in Advocate Harbour, he was a son of the late Merton and Marie (Hazel) Morris. Laverne had many jobs throughout his life, but he was most proud of the almost 10 years he spent as a truck driver with AYR Motor Express, Woodstock, N.B.; they were LaVerne and Irene's second family. To know Laverne was an inspiration. His love of life, generosity and kind heart will never be forgotten. One of Laverne's last wishes was to be an organ donor. He is survived by his wife, the former Irene MacAloney; daughter, Mary Morris, Victoria, B.C.; sons, Mark Morris, Advocate Harbour; Rusty Brandon, Ontario; sisters, Marchel Strong (Robert Berry), Advocate Harbour; Rosalie Gouchie, Truro; brother, Nolan (Shirley), Advocate Harbour; a grandson, Joshua; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday, December 29, in Advocate Baptist Church, Rev. Donald Hirtle officiating. Reception will follow in the Advocate Fire Hall. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements entrusted to Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro. On-line condolences at www.smithsfuneralhome.com
