Re: Marriage bonds

The NB database itself [which is an index of what's in the documents]
doesn't. I haven't ever looked at the actual NB marriage bond
documents -- I tried to once at the Archives in Fredericton, but
couldn't make head nor tail of the reference numbers and how you were
supposed to be able to use them to find the documents on microfilm.
Gave up and looked at other stuff.

On the www.novascotiagenealogy.com website, if you search some of the
older marriage records, they are actually marriage bonds instead of
the marriage registers or individual marriage licenses. If you want
to see a sample, search for the marriage record of Stephen Clark &
Margaret Pugsley in 1831 in Cumberland County -- what pops up is a
marriage bond. The parents' names are not given [unless, I suppose,
one of the parents is the guarantor of the bond].

Cheers,

Dawn
