Thank you all for the information you provided.
It is only recently that I have been searching the N.S. vital
statistics site for older marriages. It is interesting to see the
various birth, death and marriage forms change over the years. I had
never seen a bond form and realized that they contain a lot of info,
provided you could ascertain whether the co-signer HAD to be a
relation of a certain stature i.e. father-in- law etc.
It is also interesting to see that it was the crown ( usually Queen
Victoria in the cases I have looked at ) that received the monies
should the marriage not happen. I wonder what exceptions there were
when a marriage didn't go ahead due to a concensual agreement between
the parties etc.
I'm glad that this query brought to light the New Brunswick website
as well.
