Obit: MILLER, Barbara

MILLER, Barbara - 55, Linden, Cumberland Co., passed away on December 22, 2008, surrounded by family and friends in North Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Pugwash. Born in Ottawa, Barbara was the oldest daughter of Neita (Gallinger) Miller, Portland, Ont., and the late William Miller. Barbara's early years were spent in the Ottawa area, where in 1974 she became a Registered Nurse at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. In 1988, she completed her Bachelor of Nursing at Dalhousie University, and her Diploma in Gerontology at Mount St. Vincent. The majority of Barbara's nursing work over 33 years was with seniors and she enjoyed them immensely! Barbara was married briefly in the 1980's. She gave generously of her time, to volunteer and charity organizations and especially enjoyed her work with the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association of Nova Scotia. Barbara also loved to travel and journeyed to many countries around the world. She would have liked to have done more! Barbara was a good neighbour and friend to many people in the local area. She was known to entertain the neighbourhood children with regular get-togethers and she looked forward to them as much as the children did! Barbara really enjoyed her nieces and nephew too, and had fond memories of their times together, some at the seashore in Nova Scotia and others at their homes in Ontario. Always an important part of Barbara's life were her dogs, first Sooner and now Max and Meg. Those who knew Barbara well knew that she lived her life in a state of gratefulness. A simple "thank you" was never too small for her. Besides her mother she is survived by her sister, Wendy (Philip) Mayhew; her brother, Richard (Eileen) Miller; her sister, Patricia Miller (George Donaldson); nephew, Reid Mayhew; and nieces Brianne and Tyla Miller. Visitation will be held from 7- 9 p.m. Sunday, December 28, in Mundle's Funeral Home, 204 Water St., Pugwash, where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 29. Rev. Marilyn Lamb and Rev. Glenn Eason officiating. A reception is to follow in the Linden Community Hall. Burial in Linden Hillside Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the Lillian Allbon Cumberland County Animal Shelter or any charity. Private condolences may be sent to the family by visiting our website at: mmcfunerals.com
