Obit - Mrs. Juanita (Tupper) Rogers, 1973
OBITUARY
Many friends here were saddened to learn of the passing of one of
Oxford's best known citizens, Mrs. Stanley E. Rogers, 81, whose death
occurred at Lockhart's Nursing Home, Amherst, on Sunday afternoon, Sept.
30th. She had been in poor health for about three years. The former
Juanita May Tupper, she was born at Spencer's Island, Cumberland Co., a
daughter of the late Captain Burpee and Linda (Tupper) Tupper.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Audrey (Mrs. Harland
Akerman), Dowling, Ont.; Emily (Mrs. Hugh Ashcroft), Halifax; six sons,
Emerson, Sydney Forks; Sheldon and Douglas, Oxford; Al., Hannon, Ont.;
Prescott, Kingston; Charles, Ottawa; a brother, Charles, Toronto; and 24
grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a
brother, Nathan. She was a graduate of Normal School, Truro, and taught
school at Rose (near Westchester) prior to her marriage almost 61 years
ago. The rogers family lived at Oxford, Little Bass River and
Millstream, Pictou Co., before returning to Oxford in 1944. She was
always interested in community affairs, an active member of Oxford
Baptist Church and the Baptist Social Circle. She was a valued member
of the Baptist choir for many years. She was also an active member of
the Ladies Legion Auxiliary. The funeral was held from Oxford Baptist
Church on Wednesday afternoon and was conducted by the pastor, Rev.
Edgar Patriquin. Burial took place in the Rogers cemetery at Windham.
