Ruth ALLEN, a member of the Cumberland District School Board since its
inception in 1982 and its Chairman for the past four years, has resigned
following her recent appointment as Warden of Cumberland County.
The home of Miss Karen GILROY, South Oxford, was destroyed early Sunday
morning by fire. Oxford firemen were called to the scene at 5:10 a.m.
Construction is well underway for the new Co-op store in Pugwash. It is
expected to open in March 1989.

Died - Donald James ELLIOTT, 20, and Gregory Charles, 19, both of
Wallace Bridge, November 11, in a boating accident in Wallace Bay.

Thursday, December 8, 1938.
A Springhill youth, Andrew MCMASTER, was found early Saturday morning by
a search party a hundred yards from a farm house in Rodney, lying in the
snow where he had succumbed to the cold. The youth had started out to
search for rabbits and being only thinly clad, hunger and exhaustion
overtook him before he reached the farm.
Claude BURKE, Oxford-born goal-keeper of Montreal Canadiens, is doing a
fine job with the Flying Frenchmen. He recently scored his first
shut-out after only 13 days in big time hockey.
