It took three votes and a tie-breaking luck of the draw for Ruth ALLEN,
Port Greville, to become Cumberland County's first female warden here
last Wednesday.

Brothers Donald and Gregory ELLIOTT, Wallace Bridge, drowned Friday
afternoon when their 18-foot wooden boat capsized while oyster fishing
in Wallace Bay.

Died - Phyllis Blanche LANDRY, 75, Springhill, November 11.
Died - Cecil Roy HARTLING, 95, Malagash, November 11.

Edgar MACMASTER, 57, and 30-year-old Glen MACMASTER, Springhill, were
found early Sunday morning after having been lost in the woods overnight
Saturday.

Thirteen survivors of the Springhill disaster are enjoying a holiday in
Georgia as guests of Governor Marvin Griffin.

The body of John H. GRIFFITHS, Amherst merchant, was found in the woods
at North Greenville on November 15. He had been missing nearly five
days, while hunting.

Died - Victor HIGGS, 74, Collingwood, November 8.
Died - Mrs. Stanley PRATT, 43, formerly Nola Grace Rushton of Oxford,
October 30.

Thursday, November 25, 1948.

President C.E. THOMPSON, Vice-President Russell MCELMON,
Secretary-Treasurer Charles WAVROCK, were elected as Officers of the
Oxford District Farmers Association.

Ross BARCLAY, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Barclay, Wentworth Station,
member of the Science Class of '49 at Mt. Allison University has been
awarded the Captain Ronald and Elva Machum Bennett Scholarship.

Died - Aaron HODGSON, 93, Wyvern, November 17.
Died - William W. SIMMONDS, 84, West Leicester, last week.

The former Post Office on Main Street is being completely renovated by
the present owner, Mr. S.B. PATTON. The Oxford Market, operated by Mr.
Harding WRIGHT, moved to the new premises on Wednesday.

Donald R. GLENNIE was appointed President of the Oxford Curling Club.

Born in Westchester Station on June 4, 1908 to Charles and Margaret
(Hollingsworth) Webb. Wife of Rev. Douglas M. Fraser who predeceased
her in 1980, married in 1936. Survived by her only son, Terence of
Saint John and his wife Dale; two grandsons, Jon Fraser of Saint John,
and Joel Fraser, wife Elizabeth. Predeceased by six brothers - Raymond,
Earle, Russell, Leo, Bligh, and Ivan; two sisters, Amy and Ella; and by
one half-sister, Alveretta.

MILLER, James Herman, 73, Springhill, Wednesday, November 5, 2008. Born
in Springhill, son of the late Bernard and Martha (Maddison) Miller.
Survived by wife of 55 years, former Clara Ann Howard; daughters Pamela
(Gerald) Davis, Springhill, Cathy Miller (Jerome Holland), Halifax.
Predeceased by a brother Bernie Miller.

LLOY, Calvin Grant, 79, Collingwood, Saturday, November 8, 2008. Born
in Williamsdale, son of the late William H. and Christina G. (Purdy)
Lloy. Surviving are his wife, former Gwendolyn E. Taylor; daughters,
Elizabeth A. Desborough (Ed), Collingwood; Linda R. Murphy (Bernie),
Amherst; sons, Christopher C. Lloy (Charlene), Grande Prairie, AB;
Kenneth E. Lloy, Amherst. Sisters, Nellie Gilroy, Leamington, and Rev.
Marion Lloy (Wallace Smith), Amherst; brother Morris Lloy (Wanda),
Collingwood. Predeceased by brother-in-law Cleve Gilroy.

MOORE, Thelma Clara, 94, Monday, November 3, 2008. Born in Little
River, daughter of the late George and Margaret (Faulkner) Adshade.
Survived by sons, Ronald (Brenda) of Valley Road, Terry (Roslyn) of
Newfoundland; daughters Marva, North Carolina and Sharon, Dartmouth;
stepson Jack (Gail) of Hamilton; step-daughters Phyllis of Mississauga
and Marg (Bruce) Moss, Oxford Junction; sister Kathleen McCarthy,
Amherst. Predeceased by husband Avard; sisters Ada, Flora and Viola;
brothers Fernie, Carl, Lewllyn, Gordon and Logan; step-sons Robert and
Eric; great-grandson Kyle.
