Obit: BEST, Raymond Arthur

BEST, Raymond Arthur - 83, of St. James Street, Springhill, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Nappan. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late William Abner and Sarah Ann Elizabeth (Moore) Best. He began his working career with the Cumberland Railway & Coal Co., later working with C. W. Carter Garage then in 1964 he began working for Corrections Canada where he remained until his retirement. He was past Fire Chief and honorary member of the Springhill Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling, snowmobiling, family and friends. He is survived by sons, Donald (Jackie) Best, Springhill, and Norman Douglas "Dougie" (Cindy) Best of Flin Flon, Man.; daughter, Joan (Lonnie) Atkinson of Ingersoll, Ont.; special friend, Josie Gillis, Springhill; sister, Mona Lindsay of Victoria, B.C.; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Marjorie Campbell; brothers, Roy and William; sisters, Audrey, Nina, Vera, Lola and Doris. Visitations will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday, December 19, in A. H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, from where the Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, with Rev. Dr. Lonnie Atkinson officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to All Saints Springhill Hospital Auxiliary would be appreciated.
