Waldo E Howard Obit
1947-Wentworth, April 7 - This community was deeply saddened when it
learned of the passing of Waldo E. HOWARD, at his home at Parrsboro
on Wednesday March 10 after an illness of several months, at the age
of 58 years. Waldo as he was familiarly known was born in Middleboro
the only son of the late Kent and Jane (HOLLIS) HOWARD and spent his
entire life here except for periods each year during the last 25
years, which he spent operating a lumber mill in various districts
through out Nova Scoita. He endeared himself to a wide circle of
friends, by his genial disposition, acts of kindness and
hospitality. During October 1947 due to ill health he discontinued
operating his mill for a time at Brookfield, his cousin George taking
it over for the winter. He then returned to his home, which he had
purchased a short time before in the town of Parrsboro, where he was
tenderly cared for by his wife, daughter, Norma and husband, also
sister Bertha and husband. All that medical aid and loving care
could do was of no avail. On Sunday March 7 he suffered a paralytic
stroke which rendered him unconscious. He passed away without
regaining consciousness on Wednesday March 10. He leaves to mourn
their loss his wife, formerly Isabel MacFARLANE of Fox Harbour, three
daughters, Mrs. Kathleen O'BRIEN of Amherst, (Norma) Mrs. Rubert
CHAMBERS of Parrsboro, Ruth of Amherst, an only sister Bertha (Mrs.
Loran OGILVIE) of Wentworth and a host of relatives and friends
throughout Nova Scotia and the United States. George O. Howard, mill
owner and operator at Newton, Guysboro County is a cousin and partner
of the deceased. The funeral was held Saturday, March 13 at 2
o'clock at his home in Parrsboro Rev. Carl JONES officiating. Rev.
Mr. JONES was at one time pastor of the Wallace River Baptist Church
of which the deceased was a member and delivered a comforting address
to the bereaved friends and relatives and spoke of the very high
esteem in which the deceased was held in his community and
surrounding districts.
