Obit: LANE, Rev. Ronald Chester

LANE, Rev. Ronald Chester - 78, Truro, passed away Friday, December 5, 2008, in East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Chester and Blanche (MacKay) Lane. Ronald received his education in the local Truro schools, and later graduated from Kings College and Dalhousie University. He was ordained as a priest of the Anglican Church on March 1, 1967. In that same year, Ronald became the first rector of the new parish of Waverley, St. John's Anglican, separate from the parish in Sackville. Oakfield and Windsor Junction were included within the bounds of this new parish. Ronald had many interests in his life, being a member of the Scottish Society, a Boy Scout Leader, an avid hunter, a member of the Air Cadets, a waterfront leader and a bookkeeper. With a love of traveling, Ronald had visited 40 different countries of the world. He was a member of St. John's Anglican Church in Truro and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Truro Fire Brigade, and along with his father, volunteered time with the Canadian Cancer Society. Ronald is survived by his wife, Catherine (Ivany) Lane; daughter, Susan MacDonald, Shubenacadie; sons, David, Moorfield, Ont.; Rodney (Nancy), Giant's Lake, Guysborough Co.; grandchildren, Alexis, Mitchel, Mindy, Beckie, Benjamin, Kristin and Jeffery; great-grandchildren, Ashton and Zachary; stepchildren, Grace and David; stepgrandson, Michael; step great-granddaughter, April; brothers, Douglas (Giselle) and Glen, both of Ontario; Gordon (Sheila), Truro. He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances (Creelman) Lane; son, Gregory Ronald. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service to celebrate Ronald's life will be held on Tuesday, December 9, at 2 p.m. in St. John's Anglican Church, 23 Church St., Truro, Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Interment at a later date in Terrace Hill Cemetery, Truro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, or St. John's Anglican Church.
