Obit: MacDONALD, Shirley Alma [GOUCHIE]

MacDONALD, Shirley Alma - Age 68, of Amherst, passed away after a sudden illness on Friday, December 5, 2008, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, surrounded by her family. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late William and Florence (Welch) Gouchie. Shirley loved all sports especially hockey and attended all the Rambler Games, Minor Hockey and Little League. She enjoyed watching her grandson Adam playing hockey and her granddaughter Taylor playing basketball. During the summer months Shirley was an avid clam digger and loved walking everyday. Shirley was a supporter of the Relay For Life as she was a five year cancer survivor. She is survived by her husband, Ralph; sons, David (Karen) and Peter, both of Amherst; grandchildren, Adam and Taylor; brothers, Raymond (Faye) of Amherst and brother, Bill (Kate) of Edmonton, Alta.; sisters, Eleanor (Gerald) O'Brien of South Brook; and her sister and best friend, Marjorie (Ralph) Manzer of Amherst and several nieces and nephews. Shirley will be sadly missed by her dear friends, Betty deGannes and Sarah Spence. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8:30 p.m., all in Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 9, at 9:30 a.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst, with Deacon Howard Gotell officiating. Family flowers only. Memorial donations in Shirley's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Palliative Care Unit of Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre or charity of your choice. www.campbells-amherst.ca
