1982. Nappan - Mrs. Phyllis Ivah DECKER, 61, of Nappan, died
Saturday in Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in South
Hampton, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Gladys (BROWN)
PETTIGREW. She was an elementary school teacher for 28 years and for
the past eight years taught at West Highlands School, Amherst.
Previous to this she taught at several schools throughout Nova
Scotia. She was a member of the Nova Scotia Teacher's Union and was
a former area representative of the union. She held several offices
both locally and provincially with the Women's Institute. She was a
member and past president of the Chignecto Presbyterian UCW, and was
active in all church affairs. She was a member of the Britannia
Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star #18, Amherst, the Amherst
Historical Society, and the Mount Allison University Alumni. She was
a past secretary of the Cumberland Resource Development Committee.
She is survived by her husband, Rev. Gordon DECKER; and two
daughters, Gladys, Halifax, and Kathleen, Houston, Texas. The body
is in Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst. Funeral will be 2 p.m.
Tuesday in Nappan United Church, Rev. C. Eldon SHANNON officiating.
Committal will be in Amherst Cemetery Receiving Chapel and spring
burial in the Fenwick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
made to the Phyllis Decker Memorial Scholarship Fund.
